Appleton East football blanks Kettle Moraine in defensive gem

APPLETON – Appleton East quarterback Alex Thompson threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Christiansen in the third quarter for the game’s only points as the Patriots defeated Kettle Moraine 6-0 in a nonconference football game Thursday night at Pickett Field at Appleton East High School.

Ben Smestad had an interception and Birk Kozlowicz racked up 11 tackles for the East defense in the shutout.

Thompson finished 4-for-5 passing for 70 yards with all four completions to Christiansen. Thompson also added a team-high 124 yards rushing as the Patriots finished with 234 yards on 45 carries.

Appleton East (2-0) will open its Fox Valley Association schedule next Thursday at Neenah (1-1).
