Appleton East boys basketball uses hot start to knock off Chippewa Falls in WIAA Division 1 regional quarterfinal

APPLETON – The Appleton East boys basketball team have suffered through a rough patch as of late, but on Tuesday night the Patriots were able to pick up a playoff win.
Appleton East held Chippewa Falls to just nine first-half points and rolled to a 58-41 win in a WIAA Division 1 regional quarterfinal at East High School.
The No. 15 seed Patriots (7-18) move on to a regional semifinal at No. 2 Marshfield (18-6) on Friday. East upended Marshfield 39-37 in its season-opener back on Dec. 3. The No. 18 seed Chippewa Falls finish the season winless at 0-25.
East, which was just 1-11 to close the regular season, jumped out to a 37-9 lead by halftime and cruised from there as 11 different players scored in the victory.
Cade Prestigiacomo and Brayden Nieman each scored 12 points, with Nieman knocking down three of the Patriots eight 3-pointers.
