Appleton East boys basketball dominates second half, upends Appleton North

APPLETON – Appleton East overcame a seven-point halftime deficit and doubled up Appleton North in the second half, defeating the Lightning 58-44 in a Fox Valley Association boys basketball game Tuesday at North High School.

Appleton North led 23-16 at halftime before the Patriots exploded for a 42-21 advantage over the final 18 minutes and won going away.

Joey LaChapell had a rough night shooting, making just four of 16 shots, but went 15-for-16 at the free throw line and scored a game-high 26 points for the Patriots (5-13, 3-11 Fox Valley Association), who won their second game in a row and ended a seven-game losing streak in the FVA.

Grayson Kasmarek added 11 points and seven rebounds for Appleton East.

Abraham Tomori had 14 points and five rebounds, and Will Sweeney scored 13 points for Appleton North, ranked sixth in this week’s Wissports.net Division 1 state coaches poll. The Lightning are now 15-4 overall and 10-4 in the FVA after suffering their third loss in their last four games.

Appleton East hosts Fox Valley Lutheran for a nonconference game Thursday and both teams return to FVA action Friday as Appleton North travels to Fond du Lac and the Patriots host Appleton West.
