Appleton East baseball holds off late rally to top Fond du Lac

APPLETON – Mason Winkler threw six strong innings to earn the win and Appleton East held off a late rally to defeat Fond du Lac 5-4 in a Fox Valley Association baseball game Monday at East High School.

Winkler struck out three and allowed two runs in six innings before giving way to Matthew Bixler. A single by Conner Klapperich and an error on the play allowed two runs to score to tighten it up before Bixler was able to finish off the win, which included picking off Klapperich at second base.

Cade Prestigiacomo had two hits and an RBI, Alex Thompson had an RBI double and Jackson Bines-Sabrowsky drove in a run with a triple to lead the Appleton East offense as the Patriots improve to 6-11 overall and 5-9 in the FVA.

Appleton East will play at Appleton West on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Nienhaus Sports Complex.
