Appleton East baseball cruises past Appleton West to win WIAA Division 1 regional final

APPLETON – Appleton East is moving on to sectionals after an 11-0 win over rival Appleton West in a WIAA Division 1 baseball regional final Thursday at East High School.

The Patriots scored all 11 runs in the first three innings and finished off the game via the 10-run rule after 4½ innings.

Cade Prestigiacomo (four innings) and Matthew Bixler (one inning) combined on a four-hit shutout for the No. 12 seed Appleton East (10-15).

Jackson Bines-Sabrowsky had two doubles, a single and drove in two runs, Daniel Dieck added three RBI and Prestigiacomo had three hits and scored twice out of the leadoff spot for the Patriots.

Dimitry Edmunds had two of Appleton West’s four hits in the loss. The Terrors finish the season at 7-17.

Appleton East will now take on No. 1 seed De Pere (22-3) in a sectional semifinal at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Park in Kimberly. No. 3 Bay Port (19-8) and No. 2 Kimberly (23-3) will play in the other semifinal at 1 p.m., with the winners playing for a sectional title and a berth in the WIAA State Baseball Tournament at 4 p.m. The state tournament will again be held at Fox Cities Stadium starting June 10.
