APPLETON – The Appleton East baseball team picked up its first victory of the season with a 2-0 shutout of Oshkosh West in a Fox Valley Association contest on Monday at East High School.
After East starting pitcher Matthew Bixler loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh inning with a hit batter, Cade Prestigiacomo entered and coaxed a groundout to end the threat and save the win for Bixler.
Bixler struck out two and walked two in 6 2/3 innings, scattering five hits.
The Patriots scored the game’s only two runs in the third inning without the aid of a hit. Two walks, an error and a wild pitch plated Prestigiacomo and Alex Thompson.
Jackson Bines-Sabrowsky had two hits, including a double, for Appleton East (1-4, 1-2 FVA).
Appleton East will play at Hortonville on Tuesday.
