Appleton Double Days outlast Appleton Post 38 in crosstown Legion baseball battle

MENASHA – A.J. Thompson smacked an RBI double to score Cade Prestigiacomo with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Appleton Double Days defeated Appleton Post 38 5-4 in a crosstown Legion baseball battle on Tuesday night at Koslo Park.
Post 38 took a 3-0 lead as Ryan Tesch had an RBI single and Michael Gwiazdon had a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Brandon Schopf tripled and scored on Alex Brokaw’s double in the third.
The Double Days responded with a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Thompson, and took the lead with a three-run fifth. Wyatt Schlueter scored on an error, Thompson stole home and Dan Dieck scored on another Post 38 error.
Post 38 (6-8) quickly tied the game in the sixth as Logan Hudson doubled and later scored on an Ethan Wick single, making it 4-4.
Prestigiacomo had a one-out double in the bottom of the sixth and after a pop out, Thompson delivered what proved to be the game-winner for the Double Days (6-2), who have won five games in a row.
The Double Days will play at Oshkosh on Tuesday and at Bay Port on Wednesday, while Post 38 is off until hosting its home round-robin tournament this weekend in which both teams will be playing.
The Double Days will play Wisconsin Rapids at 5:30 p.m. and Post 38 will host Kaukauna at 8 p.m. Friday. The Double Days will take on Kaukauna at noon Saturday, followed by Wisconsin Rapids against Post 38 at 2:30 p.m. Kaukauna and Wisconsin Rapids will play each other at 5 p.m., with a rematch between Post 38 and the Double Days closing the tournament at 8 p.m.
