APPLETON – The Appleton Post 38 and Appleton Double Days Legion baseball teams both saw their respective seasons come to an end with losses at the Class AAA Legion Baseball Regional on Friday at Don Hawkins Field.

In an elimination game to open the third day of the four-day tournament, the Double Days defeated rival Post 38 3-2 to knock Post 38 out of postseason play.

After Kaukauna defeated Manitowoc 10-7 in a winners’ bracket game, Manitowoc downed the Double Days 7-3 in the nightcap.

Manitowoc and Kaukauna (10-10) will play in the championship round Saturday, with Kaukauna needing to win one game and Manitowoc needs a sweep to advance to the 2024 Wisconsin Class AAA American Legion Baseball State Tournament at Wisconsin Rapids, which will be held July 30-Aug. 2.

Post 38 took a 2-0 lead in the opening game of day as Reed Flick had a sacrifice fly to plate Alex Ramus in the second inning, and Ramus singled, moved up to third on an error and scored on a groundout by Alex Brokaw in the fourth.

The Double Days would rally with three runs in the fifth. T.J. Parker had an RBI single to knock in Mac Kramer, and Cade Prestigiacomo drove in two with a single to put the Double Days on top 3-2.

Parker finished off a complete-game effort on the mound, allowing just two baserunners over the final two innings. He finished with a three-hitter and struck out five without a walk.

Post 38 ends its season with a 9-13 record.

The Double Days were able to fight back from a pair of two-run innings by Manitowoc to keep it close and trailed 4-3 after four innings.

Dan Dieck had an RBI single in the first inning and Josiah Robbert drove in two with a double in the fourth for the Double Days.

Manitowoc then plated a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, and this time the Double Days (14-4) had no answer.

Prestigiacomo and Robbert each finished with two hits for Appleton.

Robbert went the distance on the mound, striking out five with one walk, but gave up 10 hits and six of the seven runs were earned.
