Fox Valley Lutheran, Appleton East cross country teams compete at West De Pere Phantom Invitational

DE PERE – The Neenah girls and De Pere boys earned team titles at the West De Pere Phantom Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Southwest Park.
Fox Valley Lutheran finished sixth in both the girls and boys standings, while the Appleton East girls took seventh and the boys finished eighth among the eight teams at the meet.
Kate Schmoll of West De Pere won the girls race in 19:16.8, eight seconds ahead of Mazie Olkowski of Neenah.
Kristin Donart was 11th (20:34.5) and Rowen Volhard 25th (21:12.7) to lead the FVL girls.
Rosemarie Butler took 19th place (20:58.9) and Addison Baier was 30th (22:01.9) for the Appleton East girls.
De Pere had four of the top-six finishers to earn the boys team title behind race winner Grady Lenn, who finished in 15:28.1, 2 minutes and 1 second ahead of second-place Ian Willemsen of Sheboygan North.
Mason Dobberstein finished 28th (18:24.4) and Gavin Trygstad was 35th (19:05.4) for the Fox Valley Lutheran boys.
Appleton East’s top boys runners were Evan Rankin (38th, 19:20.3) and Liam Kranik (40th, 19:32.3).
Fox Valley Lutheran will compete at the Berlin Invitational at Mascoutin Golf Course on Tuesday, while Appleton East is off until Saturday, Sept. 16, when it takes part in the Smiley Invitational at Wausau East High School. FVL will also be at that meet.
