Xavier baseball downs Fox Valley Lutheran to earn first win of season

APPLETON – The Xavier baseball team picked up its first win of the season, downing crosstown rival Fox Valley Lutheran 5-1 in a nonconference game Wednesday at American Legion Post 38’s Don Hawkins Field.
Quinn Comerford threw six no-hit innings, striking out five with three walks to earn the win for the Hawks (1-5).
Xavier plated a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Titan Milhaupt, and tacked on another in the fourth when Gavin Wiese singled to score Kyler Bleck.
The Hawks pushed their lead to 5-0 with a three-run sixth. Milhaupt had an RBI triple and scored on a single by Bleck. Evan Wittmann’s sacrifice fly finished off Xavier’s scoring.
Fox Valley Lutheran (2-3) had both of its hits and scored its only run in the seventh when Conor Tetting knocked in a run with a single.
Xavier hosts West De Pere in a Bay Conference game at Don Hawkins Field on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Fox Valley Lutheran’s next game is Monday at home against Freedom at 4:30 p.m.
