Mayville shuts down Xavier softball

APPLETON – Mayville pitcher Allie Schwirtz proved too strong for the Xavier softball team as she struck out 14 without a walk shut out the Hawks 7-0 in a nonconference game Saturday at Xavier High School.

Mayville scored three times in the top of the first and rode the arm of Schwirtz the rest of the way as she allowed just three hits.

Mary Kendall had two hits for Xavier (3-2).

Kate Aumann hit a home run, and Pearl Witek had a triple and two RBI for Mayville (6-1).

Xavier returns to Bay Conference action Monday at Seymour. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
