Late 3-pointer completes second-half comeback as Appleton East girls basketball stuns Oostburg

APPLETON – Torie Neubauer drilled a 3-pointer with nine seconds to go to complete a mad second-half comeback as the Appleton East girls basketball team toppled Oostburg 68-67 in a nonconference game Tuesday night at East High School.

Oostburg, the top-ranked team in this week’s Wissports.net Division 3 state coaches poll, led 47-31 to at halftime and were up by as much as 22 early in the second half before East started rolling.

The Patriots made 10 3-pointers in the final 17 minutes and held Oostburg to just 20 points after halftime to earn the come-from-behind victory.

Neubauer had six of East’s 16 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points in the win. Lilly Meulemans added 15 points on five 3s and Ella Sweeney scored 13 points for the Patriots.

East (14-8) has now won four in a row and eight of its last nine games heading into its season-finale at Appleton North on Thursday. The Patriots open WIAA postseason play with a Division 1 regional semifinal at home against Oshkosh West on Feb. 28.

Ady Ketterhagen topped Oostburg (22-2) with 22 points.
