Appleton East, Appleton West both earn three sectional berths at WIAA Division 1 Kaukauna wrestling regional

KAUKAUNA – Appleton West and Appleton East each had three sectional qualifiers after competition at a WIAA Division 1 wrestling regional at Kaukauna High School on Saturday.
Kaukauna won the team title with 320.5 points and Neenah was second with 221.5 points to advance to a D-1 team sectional at Stevens Point on Tuesday.
Wisconsin Rapids will take on Neenah and Kaukauna will face Hortonville in the semifinals, with the winners meeting for a spot in the 2025 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison on March 7-8.
The top four in each weight class at the regional move on to a Division 1 individual sectional at Menasha next Saturday, Feb. 22. The top two at each weight at the sectional qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Feb. 27-March 1 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Moving on to the individual sectionals for Appleton East are Ido Vang at 106 pounds, Xander Schiltz at 126 and Xander DiMatteo at 157, and for Appleton West are Abdelrahman Zeineldin at 165, Quinn Meyers at 190 and Jevonte Johnson at 285.
Vang (28-10) placed third, taking the third-place match with a 21-6 technical fall win over Ousainou Manneh of Menasha, and Schiltz (28-18) also finished third for the Patriots, winning the 126-pound third-place match over Cashtin Tiedt of Neenah 8-7. He then lost a second-place wrestleback.
DiMatteo (9-11) placed fourth at 157 for Appleton East.
Johnson (19-7) was the runner-up at 285 pounds for the Terrors. He lost the championship match by a 15-0 tech fall to Kaukauna’s Nehemiah Lendobeja, before taking a second-place wrestleback in dominating fashion, pinning Brayden Milbrodt of Neenah in 33 seconds.
Meyers (8-7) had the most exciting finish for Appleton West as he placed fifth in the brackets before winning a fourth-place wrestleback over Appleton East’s Cian Bruan 15-5 to earn a spot at sectionals.
Zeineldin (25-11) placed fourth at 165 to move on as well for the Terrors.
