Second-half surge leads West De Pere past Appleton North girls basketball

DE PERE – West De Pere pulled away in the second half, posting an 18-point advantage over the final 18 minutes, and defeated Appleton North 63-46 in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday night at West De Pere High School.
The Lightning led 27-26 before West De Pere dominated the second half, nearly doubling up North with a 37-19 advantage.
Avery Werfal scored 20 points and Tay Maass had 14 points in the loss for Appleton North, which drops to 3-3 after suffering its third-straight loss.
Madisyn Berggren led West De Pere (6-0) with 17 points.
Appleton North will host Appleton West on Friday as part of a Fox Valley Association girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game begins at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m.
