FOND DU LAC – The Appleton East girls basketball team picked up its first win of the 2024-25 season, using a dominating second half to push past Fond du Lac 60-49 in a Fox Valley Association game Friday night at Fond du Lac High School.
Ella Sweeney made six 3-pointers, hit 6 of 7 free throws in the second half, and finished with a game-high 29 points to lead the Patriots (1-4, 1-1 FVA).
Jenna Ott added 12 points and Emilia MontMarquette had 10 points for East, which finished 19-for-27 at the free throw line and had nine 3-pointers overall.
“Ella Sweeney led the Patriots with 29, but it was an unselfish team play mode that allowed us to pull away in the second half,” East coach Brian Paschen said. “The Cardinals led by one at half but East competed and did the little things to wear Fond du Lac down. The Patriots didn’t shoot well but executed on the defensive end, rebounded well and got transition points late to get the win.”
Appleton East will enjoy a week off from competition before hosting Kaukauna on Friday, Dec. 13.
