De Pere outlasts Fox Cities boys hockey in high-scoring affair

DE PERE – De Pere scored four times in the opening period and went on to defeat the Fox Cities Stars 7-4 in a nonconference boys hockey game Friday night at the De Pere Ice Arena.
The Voyageurs (2-2) outshot Fox Cities 14-3 in the opening period and scored four times in an 11½-minute stretch to open up a 4-0 lead.
The Stars’ Cale Adamovich scored with just 20 seconds to go in the period, and added another 3:09 into the second to cut De Pere’s lead in half.
Will Cote cashed in on a power play 3½ minutes later for Fox Cities to make it 4-3, but it could not catch up.
After a De Pere goal six minutes into the third, Preston McGinnis countered for the Stars, only to see the Voyageurs scored twice in the last 5:14 to put away the win.
Logan Brownson finished with 36 saves in goal for Fox Cities (4-4).
The Stars will play a Badgerland Conference game at Fond du Lac Springs on Thursday, Dec. 12.
