Bay Port outlasts Appleton East girls basketball

SUAMICO – Bay Port outscored Appleton East by four points in overtime to pull out a 69-65 victory in a nonconference girls basketball game in East’s season-opener on Saturday night at Bay Port High School.
Melia Lemorande hit five of her six 3-pointers in the first half and finished with a game-high 28 points for the Pirates (2-0).
Appleton East led 34-33 at halftime and the rest of the game was just as tight with the score being tied 61-61 after regulation.
A 3pointer by Abby Whiteman and two free throws from Lemorande helped push Bay Port to the win over overtime.
Appleton East finished with 10 3-pointers, three each from Lilly Meulemans and Torie Neubauer. Meulemans and Ella Sweeney each scored 16 points to lead the Patriots.
Appleton East will compete at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic, taking on Whitefish Bay on Nov. 29 and Racine The Prairie School on Nov. 30.
