Xavier football holds off Little Chute in WIAA Division 4 Level 1 playoff

APPLETON – The Xavier football team is moving on in the WIAA playoffs after pulling past Little Chute 21-14 in a Division 4 Level 1 game Friday night at Rocky Bleier Field at Xavier High School.
The No. 4 seed Hawks (6-4) will play at No. 1 seed and Bay Conference champion Winneconne (10-0) in a Level 2 matchup on Friday, Nov. 1. Winneconne defeated Kohler/Sheboygan Christian/Sheboygan Area Lutheran 35-13 on Friday.
The Hawks picked off six Little Chute passes, including one by linebacker Carter Appl who returned it 50 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to tie the game at 14-14.
Matthew Potter later connected with Aiden Eckes for a 14-yard touchdown pass to give the Hawks the lead, which held the rest of the way.
Potter, who also intercepted two passes on defense, ran for 94 yards and threw for 121 for Xavier.
Appl finished with 17 tackles, and Simon VandenHeuvel had 10 tackles and an interception for the Hawks’ defense.
In an earlier matchup this season, Winneconne defeated Xavier 37-19 in a Bay Conference matchup Sept. 27.
