Xavier, Fox Valley Lutheran, Appleton North competitors bow out early at WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament

MADISON – Members of the Xavier, Fox Valley Lutheran and Appleton North girls tennis team competed at the 2024 WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, which was held Thursday through Saturday.

Xavier had a singles player and two doubles team compete in Division 1 competition, while Fox Valley Lutheran had a singles player and Appleton North a doubles team take part in the tournament.

Xavier’s Dana Kessler dropped her opening singles match to Katelyn Rippl of Mequon Homestead 6-0, 6-4, to finish her season with a 16-13 record.

The Xavier doubles team of Kate Jannette and Mariel Pante won its first match over Elkhorn’s Lauryn Krober and Peyton Willians, 6-1, 6-1, before losing in the second round to Ana Cristescu and Maria Cristescu of De Pere, 6-0, 6-0, to end its season with a 24-6 record.

The other doubles team competing for the Hawks was Grace Ogden and Gabby Stammer, who dropped their opening match to Milena Halberg and Mya Mommaerts of Sun Prairie West, 6-4, 6-3, to finish the year at 24-5.

Appleton North’s doubles team of Olivia Gaskill and Sabrina Janda also lost its opening-round match, falling to Madison Mynatt and Audrey Sauve of Oconomowoc 6-1, 6-1, to end the season with a 14-7 mark.

Fox Valley Lutheran’s Linda Bowater competed in singles and won her first match over Alex Drazkowski of Onalaska 6-3, 6-0, but lost in the second round to Julia Gurholt of Kimberly 6-0, 6-0. Bowater finishes the year with a 15-4 record.

Clare Schaefer of Whitefish Bay won the singles state title, and Sarah Beubert of Isabella Heidenberger of Hartland Arrowhead took the doubles crown.
