Appleton West/Kimberly edges Appleton East/Hortonville/Kaukauna in FVA girls swimming dual

APPLETON – Appleton West/Kimberly won eight of the 12 events to eke out a 93-90 win over Appleton East/Hortonville/Kaukauna in a Fox Valley Association girls swimming & diving dual Tuesday at Appleton East High School.

Appleton West/Kimberly finishes its FVA season at 3-3, and Appleton East/Hortonville/Kaukauna drops to 0-5.

Colleen DeBruin won a pair of individual events and was part of two winning relays for West/Kimberly.

DeBruin won the 100-yard freestyle in 58.84 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.12, and joined Bryn Hansen, Alaina Hagany and Brooklyn VanGompel to win the 200 medley relay in 2:05.46, and teamed with Hagany, Madison Witz and VanGompel to take first in the 400 freestyle in 4:04.70.

Witz also won the 50 freestyle in 28.60 and DeBruin won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.12, Graisyn Rabideau was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.15, and Hagany won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.40 as well for Appleton West/Kimberly.

Ava Strassburg won the diving competition for Appleton East/Hortonville/Kaukauna with 220.60 points.

Appleton East/Hortonville/Kaukauna will take on Oshkosh North/Lourdes at Oshkosh West on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Appleton West/Kimberly is now off until the Fox Valley Association Meet, which will be held Nov. 1-2 at Neenah High School.
