Fox Valley Lutheran football pulls off one-point win over Seymour

APPLETON – For the third week in a row, the Fox Valley Lutheran football team’s game came down to a one-point spread. This time, the Foxes were the ones that came out on top.

David Schumacher scored on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Papendorf late in the fourth quarter to give Fox Valley Lutheran a much-needed 25-24 win over previously undefeated Seymour on Friday night at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.

The Foxes, which lost to Waupaca and Freedom by one point the past two weeks, are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Bay Conference. Seymour drops its first game of the season, falling to 5-1 and 3-1 in the Bay.

Lucas Papendorf had a 14-yard rushing touchdown for FVL in the second quarter, only to see Seymour pull ahead 8-6 at halftime.

The Foxes seemingly took control in the third quarter as Papendorf threw a 21-yard TD pass to Nic Martin and Blessings Kapande had a rushing touchdown for a 19-8 lead, but Seymour had other ideas.

Two rushing touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions gave the Thunder a 24-19 lead before the late heroics from FVL.

Papendorf finished with 293 yards passing, with Schumacher hauling in nine passes for 113 yards and Graham Fiedt finishing with eight catches for another 115 yards in the win for FVL.

Fox Valley Lutheran will play at New London next Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
