Seymour holds off Xavier softball

APPLETON – Xavier had first-place Seymour on the ropes but in the end lost 3-2 in a Bay Conference softball game Friday at Xavier High School.

After Seymour scored twice in the top of the first inning, Addison Hervey smacked a two-run homer for the Hawks in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 2-2.

Seymour (12-6, 9-1 Bay Conference) pulled ahead with a run in the third and the score held the rest of the way as Xavier (5-10, 3-7 Bay Conference) four baserunners the rest of the way.

Hervey took the loss on the mound for the Hawks, giving up five hits and three walks, while striking out eight.

Gillian Herrala struck out 11 and gave up just two hits to earn the win for Seymour.

Xavier’s next game is Monday at home against West De Pere.
