Kimberly holds off late rally to defeat Appleton North softball

KIMBERLY – A seventh-inning rally from the Appleton North softball team fell a run short as Kimberly held on for a 7-6 win in Fox Valley Association action Friday at Sunset Park.

Kimbelry scored five times in the second and twice in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead before North tried to push for the lead in its final at-bat.

Alyssa Wald and Tatum Beggs had RBI singles to bring the Lightning (4-10, 3-9 FVA) to within a run. After a walk loaded the bases, Kimberly pitcher Isabella Ellstead struck out the final batter to preserve the win for the Papermakers (9-7, 7-5 FVA).

Alyssa Wald hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and added an RBI groundout in the second. Ella Nissen and Callie Weber also had RBI singles for the Lightning.

Appleton North will play Winneconne and Freedom at the Winneconne Invitational on Saturday.
