RIPON – Kaila Stammer doubled home Mariah Potter with what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning as the Xavier softball team knocked off Ripon 8-7 in a nonconference game Saturday at Murray Park.
Ripon scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to force an extra frame, but the Hawks were able to regroup. Potter led off with a walk, stole second and scored on Stammer’s double to put Xavier back on top.
Potter finished off the win on the mound with a 3-up 3-down bottom of the eighth, pushing the Hawks’ record to 3-5 this season.
Addison Hervey, Abby Ourada, Angela McGreevey, Ella Bauman and Caroline Vanden Heuvel all had two hits for Xavier, with Hervey driving in four runs.
Xavier returns to action Tuesday at Seymour.
