Hortonville outlasts Appleton North softball

APPLETON – The Appleton North softball team lost its third-straight game, falling to Hortonville 6-2 in a Fox Valley Association game Thursday at North High School.

The Lightning led 2-1 after Claire Therkildsen smacked a two-run home run in the second inning, but wouldn’t score again versus Hortonville pitcher Grace Danoski.

The Polar Bears pulled ahead scored three times in the fourth and twice in the fifth against North pitcher Sophia Wald, who struck out two and walked three.

Danoski allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out nine to earn the win, and also had a pair of doubles and scored twice for Hortonville (7-3, 3-3 FVA).

Alyssa Wald and Callie Weber both had two hits for Appleton North (1-6, 0-5 FVA).

Appleton North will play at Appleton West on Friday at the Nienhaus Sports Complex starting at 5 p.m.
