Seventh-inning run gives Appleton East softball win over Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC – Emma Behling delivered an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Appleton East softball team to a 2-1 win over Fond du Lac in the Fox Valley Association opener for both teams on Monday at Fond du Lac High School.

Josie Heiser reached on a dropped third strike, went to second on a groundout and scored on Behling’s single to give the Patriots the go-ahead run.

Aubrie Erickson coaxed a double play to end the game in the bottom of the seventh to finish off the complete-game victory for East, which was playing its season opener.

Torie Neubauer and Behling collected the only two hits of the game for the Patriots.

Appleton East plays at Kimberly on Tuesday.
