Xavier girls basketball dominates second half to push past Menasha

APPLETON – The Xavier girls basketball team dominated the second half of play, outscoring Menasha by 18 points, and pulled away for a 64-43 Bay Conference win on Tuesday at Xavier High School.

The Bluejays hung close in the first half, trailing Xavier 31-28 at the break, before the Hawks buckled down defensively and allowed just 15 points the rest of the way to finish off the victory.

Xavier, winners of four in a row and six of its last seven, are now 15-6 overall and 9-1 in the Bay Conference. Menasha drops to 13-8 and 6-4 in conference play.

Molly Martine and Kylee Standish both scored 13 points, and Carsyn Stempa added 12 for Xavier.

Aria Bilke led all scorers with 17 points for Menasha.

Xavier is back in action Thursday at Green Bay East and can climb back into a tie with West De Pere atop the Bay Conference standings with a win. Both teams will wrap up their conference seasons Feb. 15 as West De Pere hosts New London and Xavier will play at home against Shawano.
