League champion Stevens Point rolls past Appleton West in Valley Football Association finale

STEVENS POINT – Appleton West dropped its final Valley Football Association game of the season Friday night to Stevens Point Area Senior High 56-6 at Goerke Field.

Braylon Smola and Izzy Moore each scored three rushing touchdowns for the Panthers.

SPASH (7-1, 7-0 VFA) scored the first 22 points of the game with an 8-yard touchdown run from Smola, a safety, a 6-yard touchdown run from Moore, and a 6-yard touchdown pass from Trent Breitbach to Ethan Ehlinger.

In the second quarter, Parrion Peace returned an interception for a touchdown for Appleton West to close the gap to 22-6.

Smola scored two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, and Moore added one as well to bring the score to 43-6 at the end of the first half.

Jaxon Statler scored the first touchdown of the second half for SPASH on a 3-yard touchdown reception from Mason Dillinger.

Moore punched in his third touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter to make the final score 56-6.

SPASH finishes the season atop the VFA and will play in the WIAA playoffs, which begin next Friday, Oct. 20.

“There were still a lot of positives from this season,” Appleton West offensive line coach Jay Coonen said. “The kids that showed up every day and didn’t quit, and the bond those kids created, set the example for next year.”
